Telstra TG799vac VS NetGear(Fail) XR500

#569

Post by Rain »

Today i jumped on the 1000/50 Launtel speed plan today to see how Telstra TG799vac (11years old current 12 yrs old modem/router) stood up against Netgear xr500 purchased late in 2018 and the results are interesting

:beer :pray :thumbdown :thumbup

Let's start off with my Asus 68u of close to 1 year shat itself pretty much gave me the middle finger and died  R.I.P Asus RT68u you didn't even last a year or close to it

Telstra TG799vac results first - Launtel Sydney Server then Telstra Sydney Server in that order in all my shots

Now for Netgear XR500 Gaming router

So i thought ok i'll try the Beta firmware and to see if anything changed

Nope still terrible can't even get above 400Mbps that's disappointing cause sometimes i like to switch to 400/50

Now little did i know that this new Beta version still kicks people off lan connections at first i didn't believe it noted here over at the netgear community
Look at my connection drop

Seems people were right NetGear is a piece of crap and most likely only have 1 person working on the software cause its been happening even prior to the beta

So My 11-12 years old Telstra TG799vac out performs a router build for gamers and still new from 2018 onwards is just insane crazy

I'm never buying a netgear ever again

Touché!

Consider the free or often very low cost ex-Telstra Technicolor DJA0230 SMG1 - it does Gigabit.

The newer, lighter & smaller ex-Telstra Technicolor DJA0231 SMG2 is equally good. Both are also rootable if required.

and both work very well ( WAN = DHCP ) with eg Aussie BB, Launtel, Superloop, Optus and also does WAN = PPPoE for other RSPs ( it does not do VLAN ). It does not need a Telstra service in order ot function or even receive firmware updates.

The NBN, like Paul Fletcher's diet, needs more fibre - Applied liberally
